Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela is a role model around the world for what a confident, responsible and values-oriented leader can achieve for a society. On the 18th of July 2018, Madiba, would have turned 100 years old. In honor of this special occasion, various events and activities will take place at MSST.
Career Day, 18th July
Students from ten schools in the area are invited to visit MSST in order to get them excited about STEM (Sciences, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and to introduce to them different profiles. It is planned that the South African Minister of Basic Education, Mrs. Angie Motshekga, and the South African Minister of Higher Education, Mrs. Naledi Pandor, will be present, alongside the Premier of the Eastern Cape Province, Mr. Phumulo Masualle, and MEC for Education and Training, Mr. Mandla Makupula, as well as other honorable dignitaries who will grace this historical event.
National Science Week, 28th July – 4th August
Mvezo Traditional Council partnering with National Science Week. National Science Week is an annual initiative of the department of Science and Technology (DST) and the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA). The Mandela School of Science &Technology was chosen to be one of the official venues for this exciting initiative.
This year’s National Science Week runs under the motto of “Deepening our democracy through science”. Representatives from different Universities, including Walter Sisulu University, will attend the Science Week and conduct workshops and events.
Developing the next generation of leaders, July 2018
The Siemens Stiftung, the African Leadership Academy in Johannesburg as well as students and teachers of MSST will develop a leadership program together, which will start in July. This program should bring Madibas’ values and his leadership style back to life.
